      Sorry for the delay to this response. The standards for ordination are fairly normally set. Clerical promotion is a gray area and varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

    The cold hard truth is that many organizations (COGIC is not the first or the last)use the bishopric as a means of “securing support”. The root of the problem to me is not the deterioration of the bishopric but COGIC’s misuse of ordained ministry in general. The bar is set so low just to be a Reverend (Elder in COGIC) why are we surprised that many pay for or are bought with the hope of getting a higher title. After all you have the nephews and friends of Bishops who carry the sacred office of Ordained Elder and all they do is work a sound board or some other non ministry related duty. Worse still have no formal training or even been expected to do any self study. All they had to be was connected to the “right people”. So there it is: the rot is now being seen further up the line. It was only a matter of time.
